  • All you need to know about the iPhone 6 Plus

On Tuesday Apple unveiled a massive iPhone 6 dubbed the iPhone 6 plus. The device's screen measures at 5.5-inches and boasts a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) that Apple is calling Retina HD. With this device, Apple is entering into the large screen phone game dominated by Android and a couple of Windows Phone devices.

The iPhone 6 Plus' screen is made from "ion-strenghtened glass" which is supposed to be super durable compared to the last. If you are worried about apps looking distorted thanks to its giant screen size don't be. The 6 Plus' screen has a 16x9 aspect ratio and will scale older apps to fit the screen perfectly. The 401 ppi Retina HD display has dual-domain pixels that is said to provide a wider viewing angle of the screen.

The iPhone 6 Plus features Apple's brand new A8 chip. Apple does not really like to talk spec numbers but the chip is said to offer 25 percent faster processing power and 50 percent faster graphics processing than the previous chip. The new chip is able to provide more power by being 13 percent smaller than last years. I do not know just how fast the chip is or how many cores it has but I will update when available.

The iPhone 6 Plus (and iPhone 6) offers a new iPad like design for certain apps when in landscape mode. The messaging app, when in landscape mode, will display the selected conversation (on the right hand side of the screen) and allow you to flip through other conversations (on the left hand side of the screen) just like you can on the iPad. Other apps have received this treatment too including the Calendar and Stocks apps.

To combat the phones big display, Apple has introduced a new feature called "Reachability." A quick double touch of the home button brings down the whole app only filling up half the display, allowing users to easily hit the back button usually located on the top left of the screen.  Display Zoom will zoom into the home screen showing only 5 rows of icons instead of the new 6th row.

The rear-facing camera now takes in 80 percent more light than before. BurstMode and HDR are now available for access by the rear camera. The front-facing camera is still 8 Megapixels but has a new system that allows for super fast auto focus and noise reduction that Apple calls "Focus Pixels." 1080p video at both 30 and 60 frames-per-second is on board and a new slow mo feature that captures images at 240 frames-per-second.

The iPhone 6 Plus is open for pre-order on Friday, Sept 12, and will be released on Friday, Sept 19. Prices start at $299 for 16 gigs of memory, $399 for 64 gigs of memory and $499 for 128 gigs of memory. The same colors from last years model will roll over to this one including: gold, space grey and silver. Stay Tuned to TechNation for more.
