  • Blackberry's virtual assistant is coming with Passport.

On Wednesday Blackberry announced its brand new virtual assistant coming with the Passport. The new virtual assistant looks to be a Cortana, Google Now and Siri competitor but by the looks of it, it seems to compete more with Cortana. Blackberry Assistant, can be activated by voice or using the keyboard when voice is simply not an option.

"It [Blackberry Assistant] is voice activated when I need it to be, and helps manage simple tasks on my device from searching my email and calendar, finding out what's trending on Twitter, to sending trivia night invitations," quoted from a post on the Blackberry blog. "The more I use it, the more it learns and adapts to me."

Blackberry Assistant can do everything from search the internet to sending out tweets without even leaving the app. While driving, the device can read out emails and text messages and can even mark emails as unread. The Assistant can also launch apps. The post on the Blackberry blog highlights an event of turning on a flashlight by voice. Saying "Turn on the flashlight" opens the flashlight app and since it was activated by voice the user can say "Turn off the flashlight" also.

There are many more features of Blackberry Assistant so I suggest you head to the blog for more information. Head here for more general tech news.
