  • How to listen to Beats 1 without iTunes 12.2 (Update: 12.2 is live!)

So, we all know that Beats 1 officially launched today, unless of course you live under a rock. Its
launch coincides with the launch of Apple Music, iOS 8.4, OS X 10.10.4 and of course iTunes 12.2..er... or so we hoped. As of the time of me writing this, iTunes 12.2 is not available yet for some. The absents of iTunes 12.2 has prompted some pretty negative reactions by people on Twitter wanting to be apart of the Beats 1 hype. Being a real big radio buff, yours truly has even tweeted some rather *cough* upsetting *cough* tweets about the ordeal. Here's the thing, you don't need iTunes 12.2 to listen to Beats 1 via the iTunes player.

If you're running 12.1.2 (I do not know if older versions of the app also work) just click on the "Radio" tab. It'll open the familiar iTunes Radio interface and you'll be presented some of the newer stations previously announced at WWDC. Click the plus button in the area designated "My Stations" and do a search for Beats 1. From there click play and now you're listening to Beats 1! There is not a way to access Apple Music on older versions of iTunes that I know of.

I'll update the site as soon as iTunes is updated; for now, enjoy Beats 1 on iTunes 12.1.2! Step-by-step photos are below. PS click a photo brings up a gallery.

Update: iTunes 12.2 is officially live!
