On Wednesday Sprint announced that it will appoint Marcelo Claure as its new CEO replacing Dan Hesse. Claure will officially join the Sprint team on Aug. 11 and is looking to take Sprint to the top by "competing aggressively" here in the US.
Claure is the CEO and founder of a company named Brightstar, which is also a subsidiary of SoftBank. In a statement released today by Sprint chairman Masayoshi Son, Son had nothing but great things to say about his new leader.
"Marcelo is a successful entrepreneur who transformed a start-up into a global telecommunications company, " said Son. "He has the management experience, passion and drive to create the strongest network and offer the best products and services in the wireless industry. While we continue to believe industry consolidation will enhance competitiveness and benefit customers, our focus moving forward will be on making Sprint the most successful carrier."
