  • Apple may have just welcomed Beats to the family but layoffs are on the horizon.

It is official, Apple has finally been approved by the US government to acquire Beats Music and Beats Electronics for a cool $3 billion. Both companies have released statements on their websites exclaiming excitement about the purchase. While it may be a great day for both companies, a report from Thursday explains that the acquisition will, in fact, produce some layoffs.
On Thursday, it was confirmed to 9to5Mac that a couple of Beats employees would not make it over to Apple. Re/Code was also able to confirm that roughly 200 of Beats' 700 employees will not have a job much longer after Apple's takeover.

"We're excited to have the Beats team join Apple, and we have extended job offers to every Beats employee," said Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr to Re/Code. "Beacause of some overlap in our operations, some offers are for a limited period and we'll work hard during this time to find as many of these Beats employees as we can another permanent job within Apple."

Those who have positions that Apple already has filled could likely be out of a job within the coming months though Apple seems to be actively trying to keep them within the company.
