The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Samsung will unveil a phone-less smartwatch this year. This watch will differ from Samsung's current Gear lineup because it will have a cellular modem inside and does not need to be paired with a Galaxy device, so in order to get the device working just stick a sim card in it.
This will be Samsung's 5th and most important smartwatch to date. According to the publication, Samsung's Tizen operating system will be the driving force behind the new device. Tizen is a Linux based operating system Samsung switched to for the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit, leaving android behind. WSJ also reports that the watch will have a built in camera, GPS, and a heart-rate monitor.
This could be the smartwatch that changes everything. Expect the device to be available in June or July. No word on pricing as of yet.
