If you follow this blog then you know I absolutely adore last years Moto X. Well that was then and this is now, and now looks to be just as fantastic. The new Moto X has been named just that, Moto X. The Moto X+1 rumored name is no more. This new phone seems to be a more refined version of last years model by mostly bumping up the screen size and internal specs.
The new Moto X will ship with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with a clock speed of 2.5GHz and an Adreno 330 578MHz GPU. 2GB of RAM are on board, and the phone will ship in 16GB and 32GB flavors. Motorola says you can expect a day of battery usage from its 2,300 mAh battery.
The new Moto X's rear camera has jumped from 10MP to 13MP and can shoot in 4K resolution. I am not sure if this is 4K DCI or 4K UHD but when I find out I will update the post accordingly. The new 'Best Shot' feature will take a couple of extra pictures before and after you the photo is taken. The phone will flip through and find the best photo, filtering out blurry shots and photos of people blinking. Highlight Reel is another new camera feature, and will gather up all of the photos taken in one day and make a video collage of them all.
The screen has been bumped up to 5.2-inches with full HD 1080p resolution. Corning's Gorilla Glass will cover the front of the display though I am not sure what version of Gorilla Glass this is. The phone also has dual front facing speakers to rival HTC's Boomsound. There are four new IR sensors on the front that allow for off screen gestures. If a call comes in, users can just simply wave their hand over the front of the phone to silence the call. Silencing alarms works in the same way.
All the useful features from last years model will make it over to this version albeit with slightly different names. Touches Control is now Moto Actions, Active Display is now Moto Display and Motorola Assist is now Moto Assist. The OK Google Now voice prompt is also still featured but is customizable now. Users can change what you say to trigger the voice prompt. In a video, found at the source link, you can say "Yo Moto X" or "Warp Speed Scotty." You can change this feature to whatever you like just as long as it meets the syllable requirement.
The new Moto X can be bought through the Moto Maker for $99 on contract or $499 unlocked. All the familiar options are there for your customizing needs as well as a new leather option. The new Moto X is coming this fall. Hit the source for more photos.
Update: The new Moto X is available today for those in the US. You can buy your Moto X online at the Moto Maker for Verizon and AT&T.
Update 2: The initial update was wrong. The new Moto X will be available for the US soon.
