  • 2015 Volvo XC90 is officially official

Volvo has finally unveiled the strikingly beautiful 2015 XC90. With this new entry into the luxury SUV market, Volvo is looking to make a comeback in the US. More info after the jump.

Based on the XC Coupe concept, the new XC90 features a modern yet futuristic design. The SUV has been redesigned but one thing remains the same, the diagonal Volvo logo stretched across the familiar, yet updated, front grille. The headlights now feature a sort of side ways T shaped LED strip similar to what you can find on pretty much any other car. The familiar Volvo hips (as I call them) are also present at the rear of the vehicle.

The interior can be summed up in one word, wood. There is wood everywhere and it seems to fit the cabin quite nicely. The interior is beautiful and elegant. It also appears to be modernized only featuring one strip with radio controls while everything else has to be controlled by the vertically oriented touch screen that can only have been inspired by Tesla.

The 2015 XC90 comes equipped with a 2.0 liter turbo and supercharged engine that pushes out 316hp and 295 lb-ft of torque connected to an 8-speed automatic tranny. There is also a plug-in hybrid that has the same engine but with an electric motor that will produce 400hp.

Pricing will start at $48,900 with navigation and a panoramic sunroof standard. An optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system is available with 19 speakers powered by a 1,400 Watt Class D amplifier. A ventilated subwoofer also comes with the system. Volvo prides itself as being one of the first with this new sub design which is integrated into the body and "turns the whole interior space into a giant sub."

I am not sure when the new XC90 will hit show rooms but I am hoping sometime later this year. Head to Autoblog for a full gallery of images.
