  • An 18-core Intel processor is on the way

A leaked roadmap of Intel's new Xeon E5 processors was obtained by ChipLoco back in July and it confirms that Intel's new Xeon E5 processors are going to be extremely powerful. The lowest number of cores optioned for the new Xeon E5 line is six cores. Todays Xeon lineup consists of only four.

The maximum number of cores rumored to be coming with these new processors is said to be 18. Engadget is reporting that these new processors will launch on Sept. 9 via Dell Precision workstations. It is said that the new 18-core processors "will be too hot and power-hungry," for an Apple Mac Pro, but the 14 core version definitely fits the bill.
