Justice. Merriam Webster defines justice as "the process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals." Michael Brown, 18, was shot multiple times on Saturday afternoon. The end result was a young man, who was on his way to college, lying dead in the middle of the street for hours.
After all of the information I have gathered, I can conclude that the people of Ferguson just want to be heard. Many of them are protesting in the streets demanding that justice be served.
In a press conference on Friday, Police Chief Thomas Jackson reported that Darren Wilson was the name of the officer who killed Brown, but this was not the only information he divulged. Jackson reported that Brown was involved in a strong-armed robbery at a local convenient store.
With the release of all this new information, the people of Ferguson and citizens nationwide, are outraged that new information alleging that Brown robbed a convenient store was released several days later, along with the officers name. Citizens want to know what took the police so long to release this information and how does any of this relate to the issue at hand.
The people of Ferguson see it this way. A young man was shot and killed while surrendering, and all the local police force has done is release the officers name and try to make Brown a suspect of his own death. They have released surveillance footage trying to connect Brown to this robbery but have not even released a single picture of the officer. The people of Ferguson do not trust the police and feel that this new information about brown is a cover up and is faked to put less blame on the officer. They feel that even if that was Brown in the video at the convenient store, the end result should not have been Brown lying dead on the street.
The people of Ferguson have completely lost trust in their officials, if they had any trust in them to begin with. The mindless killings of young black men happen everyday in this country and the citizens of Ferguson Miss. are tired of it. They are trying to let their voices be heard in hopes that this time, those around the nation, regardless of race, will step up and demand justice with them.
