  • Engadget claims HTC's upcoming Windows Phone is destined for Verizon. (Update)

Update: WPCentral is reporting that a release date of Aug. 21 could happen.

The good folks over at Engadget claim they have some trustworthy sources that has given them accurate information about HTC's upcoming Windows Phone. The phone will be released on Verizon. The code name for the device is W8 but the real name is much longer than that.

The upcoming device is based on the successful One M8 and its name rightfully suggests so. Choosing to call the device "One (M8) for Windows" HTC is not shy about repackaging a beautiful shell with a different operating system. Though this name could possibly change in the future, this is the current name for now.

The device will come with the usual features found on the One M8, like its BoomSound speakers and depth-sensing camera, but the device will also come with voice over LTE. After reports of Microsoft adding the feature to Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1, the One for Windows could very well be the first Windows Phone with the feature.

As usual, this is still a rumor because nothing has officially been reported by HTC but if true, this could be a killer device for HTC and Windows Phone.
