  • Announced: Intel Core M Processors.

At its Computex press conference Intel's president, Renee James, showed off a 2-in1 reference computer that housed Intel's brand new 14nm Core M processor. While the actual processor has not been reviled yet, the reference device Intel presented on stage was 7.2mm thin. This is Intel's 5th generation of processors known as Broadwell. Note: The above slide says 4th generation, this is incorrect.

This new generation of processors will reportedly offer around 20 to 40 percent more performance and take up approximately 50 percent less space.  The SOC power is down roughly 45 percent helping the chip to produce 60 percent less heat. Intel says this new generation of chips is its most energy efficient set of chips yet. Intel believes that these chips will run inside fanless devices that pack hybrid functionality, meaning tablets that are dockable to keyboards and other accessories. \
